Disney’s over-the-top (OTT) platform Disney+ will be launched in India on April 3. The launch was earlier scheduled for March 29, but was delayed on account of the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The upgraded OTT platform will be called Disney+Hotstar.
As a result of the merger of Disney+ and Hotstar’s offerings, the service will have three distinct offerings – Disney+ Hotstar VIP, Disney+ Hotstar Premium and an ad-supported basic tier will be available.
Disney+ Hotstar VIP will cost Rs 399 a year and give subscribers access to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and movies like The Lion King, Frozen II, Aladdin and Toy Story 4. The subscription also includes Hotstar Specials shows in seven languages.
The Hotstar Premium subscription will cost Rs 999 a year. Subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar Premium will receive all the benefits of Disney+ Hotstar VIP, with the addition of access to English language content and 29 Disney+ Originals.
All existing subscribers will be automatically upgraded to their respective new subscription plan and will be charged the new rates upon renewal.
