~Book Review~ Modern Slavery and the Gods of Consumption By Ofer Even

This is the type of book I can see being studied by journalists and in schools to point out society and its pressures. An interesting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. The book description says it all: “Michael Marks is a successful advertising agent, obsessed with consumerism and climbing the corporate ladder. He takes more pleasure in buying a new car than in his wife’s third pregnancy. In fact, he even appraises his children in terms of profit and loss! LOL!! Then a series of experiences and disillusionments begin to turn his life upside down! This story sheds a great deal of light on our collective social, political and economical responsibilities. Michael is living an idyllic life with a beautiful wife Iris, one son and a daughter. They are living an American dream having all the materialistic comforts at home but the realism of today’s consumer society with an in depth in your face revealing makes this a book for everyone alive today.  It is the type of book that makes you think while at the same page making you want to read more and more so you keep turning page after page. Very well done. This was also my first time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed. I would like to recommend this book!
