‘Brutal yet inspiring’ Yes!! this was the first thing that came in my mind after finishing this book. Well when I started reading this book I had no idea that this book is going to give me a different experience of looking at God’s precious gift; Life. This story makes you think about each and everyone’s struggle which is hidden somewhere underneath this skin.

‘Her Resurrection’ by Soumyadeep Koley is Maya’s journey which focuses on many unexpressed and brutal truths of society. How an innocent girl faced the tragic experience of gang rape and then how she had to turn into a prostitute, the whole story makes you believe in the power of having faith in destiny.

The story takes you to the flashback, in a village of Maharashtra where an unwanted girl child is aware of the fact that her father doesn’t like her and her mother is not living a happy life because of being a victim of domestic violence. This story takes the reader to different aspects of main character’s life from becoming a ‘burden’ to graduating from a good college then finding herself nowhere but in a brothel.  The other characters also play their part really well from Maya’s Alcoholic father to Siddharth, a sick photographer to that rapist Shittuppam, to Damien the only savior in the book. The plot and characters are well developed which makes this book an easy read but it is full of thrilling moments.  This might be the author’s debut novel, but he nailed the subject which shows his hard work and perfect research on the subject matter. This book is a roller coaster of emotions, which is quite negative somewhere and make you feel like.. ‘Ohh gosh!! This girl has suffered a lot now please stop !!!’ but it’s hard to put it down and not to get inspired.

At the end I would like to read more from this Author and I want to congratulate the author for writing on such sensitive issue in his debut novel. If you like to read on social issues related to Indian women then I would like to recommend this book.

That’s all from my side, Stay tuned for my upcoming posts..

Till then

Happy Reading and Writing
